Yinzhou builds a highland of science education to light up the "dream of scientific and technological innovation"

On March 3, our district held a field meeting for the promotion of science education in primary and secondary schools, showcasing the achievements of science education in Yinzhou and promoting higher quality development of science education. Chinese aerospace hero Yang Liwei, academicians Huang Zhen and Zheng Weimin with their roots in Yinzhou, and others sent congratulatory messages and blessings, congratulating the Yinzhou District on its achievements in science education and placing high hopes on its future development.

As the "hometown of academicians", Ningbo boasts a total of 122 academicians with their roots in Ningbo from both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 45 out of whom are those with their roots in the Yinzhou District, accounting for more than one-third of the total in Ningbo. In recent years, as the only provincial-level science education experimental zone in the city, our district has made every effort to build the "hometown of academicians" science education brand with rich scientific and cultural heritage and characteristic resources, and is committed to cultivating innovative talents. As of now, our district has built 115 science and technology classrooms and venues, offering nearly 60 different types of science courses of 4 categories of robotics, drones, language programming, and scientific exploration. We have held events such as the "Science and Technology Festival" for 13 consecutive years. In the past 5 years, primary and secondary school students in the Yinzhou District have won more than 2,100 science and technology honors at or above the city level.

As early as in September 2023, 120 students from Ningbo were fortunate enough to have a "space-earth dialogue" with the Shenzhou-16 astronauts through the "space-based live science lecture". On that day, Yang Liwei, a space hero and "China's first person to enter space", sent congratulations. Upon learning that the Yinzhou District has become one of the first science education experimental zones in the Zhejiang Province, Yang Liwei is very pleased, saying that "science education is the cornerstone of cultivating future scientific and technological talents, and plays an irreplaceable role in stimulating students' interest and cultivating practical abilities. I look forward to the Yinzhou District leveraging its characteristic advantages as a 'hometown of academicians', allowing more students to access cutting-edge scientific knowledge, experience the charm of science, and sow the seeds of science in their hearts."

Academicians Huang Zhen, Zheng Weimin, and Zhou Zhonghe also sent sincere blessings and earnest expectations. Huang Zhen sent a message to his hometown students in the video: "You are the future of the times, the future of the motherland, and the future of Ningbo. I hope you will grow strong, study hard, pursue excellence, dare to challenge the future, and become the backbone of the motherland under the nourishment of this fertile land of Yinzhou."

Last year, our district released the "Yinzhou District New Era Primary and Secondary School Science Education Three-year Action Plan (2024-2026)". For the next step, Yinzhou will establish at least one vice principal for off-campus science education in each school, set up 100 off-campus science education bases, select 20 demonstration laboratories, create 60 high-quality science courses in the district, set up 20 science teacher studios, and create 100 innovative and creative achievements. These efforts will press the "shortcut key" for the construction of the science education experimental zone in Yinzhou, cultivate more outstanding scientific and technological talents for the whole city and even the whole country, and help promote the country's scientific and technological progress and innovative development.
