At noon of September 2, within the south campus of the Yinzhou No. 2 Experimental Primary School Education Group, students had lunch and a little break and then came to their respective classrooms to take a nap. Different from as it was before, this semester, they no longer have to bend over the desk since they just need to easily adjust the desks and chairs to enjoy a nap by lying comfortably on the chair.
This very change originates from the project of providing chairs for students to lie down for a nap at noon break. In order to provide students with safe and comfortable equipment for them to lie down for a nap at noon, this year, the Yinzhou District Education Bureau carried out the pilot project of providing chairs for students to lie down for a nap at noon break in four schools in the district. A batch of desks and chairs and mats for students to lie down for a nap at noon break has been introduced into schools and up to about 7,000 students are able to lie down for a break at noon.
Hu Chunying, Vice Principal of the Yinzhou No. 2 Experimental Primary School Education Group, told reporters that in the new semester, the school has purchased a total of 2,800 sets of desks and chairs for students to lie down. This kind of desks and chairs combines ergonomic design, high safety, and convenient operation, and can be flexibly converted into a recliner mode, allowing students to have sufficient rest during their noon break. At present, all classrooms from Grade One to Grade Four in the east, west, and south campuses of the school have successfully introduced new desks and chairs, which have received widespread praise from teachers and students. Yu Fen, a teacher in charge of Class 203 of the South Campus, said that lying down to take a nap can not only relieve fatigue, but also help with students' growth.
It is reported that for the next step, the Yinzhou No. 2 Experimental Primary School Education Group plans to cover all grades with desks and chairs for students to lie down for a nap at noon break, so as to create a more comfortable noon break environment for all students of the school.
At the beginning of the new semester, students of the Jiangnan Campus of the Jiangdong Central School in the Yinzhou District also had access to such desks and chairs since their school is also one of the schools for the pilot project of providing chairs for students to lie down for a nap at noon break. During the summer vacation, the school replaced the desks and chairs of primary and junior high school students with brand new reclining ones.
According to a relevant person in charge of the school, from the appearance, the new desks and chairs are not much different from the previous ones, but with a simple operation. They can magically become a "small bed", allowing students to fully relax in their daily learning life.
The Ningbo Art Experimental School and the Cunde School are also schools carrying out the very pilot project. This semester, the Ningbo Art Experimental School purchased a total of 1,900 mats for students to use during their noon break. The Cunde School invested over 710,000 yuan to purchase 1,300 nap chairs, therefore students of 9 classes of the school as well as those of grades two to four from the Qiuga Town Central Primary School borrowing provisional learning places in the Cunde School now are enjoying these nap chairs. After a comfortable nap, children can better engage in their studies.
It's learnt from the Yinzhou District Education Bureau that in the future, Yinzhou will also tailor napping methods according to the actual situation, develop configuration plans tailored to local conditions, and formulate annual implementation plans to provide safe and comfortable "lying to nap" equipment for primary and secondary school students.
