Ningbo No.1 Hospital

Founded in 1931, it is a comprehensive hospital of Class B of Grade 3, integrating medical service, teaching, scientific research and disease prevention. The hospital covers a land area of 17,600 sq. m., with floor space of 43,000 sq. m. The ratified number of beds is 610, though total 642 beds are in actual service. There are presently 877 staff members in total, of which 715 are medical personnel. The medium-level medical staff makes up 31.6% of total medical personnel and senior medical staff 17.1%. There are 17 ward zones, 30 clinical departments, and 12 medical technology departments.

The hospital serves as the teaching base for the Medical Institute of Zhejiang University and for other institutes and universities including Wenzhou Medical Institute. Attached to the hospital are Ningbo Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Office, Ningbo Orthopaedics Research Institute, Ningbo Pathology QC Centre, and Ningbo Radiation QC Centre.

In recent years, a great number of modern medical equipment were introduced to the hospital, including MRI, DSA, spiral CT, NTB7200 respiration machine, electronic gastroscope, cystoscope, colour B-ultrasonic detector, dynamic electrocardiogram, active plate, blood stratum-flow chamber, full automation biochemical analyser, fluid cellular analyser, advanced germiculture and identification instrument, central monitoring system, osteal densimeter, and gait analyser. Over 200 new technologies and projects were developed by the hospital in recent years, including PTCA, in vitro stem cell transplantation, embolism in brain artery tumour and abnormal brain artery & vein, artificial arthrosis replacement, DSA interposition technique. Over 500 thesis papers from the hospital have been published in formal medical periodicals, and 17 scientific research projects were accomplished. The hospital's Department of Orthopaedics, Department of Imaging and Department of Cardiovascular Medicine have been listed among the major medical development fields of Ningbo.
